Fifth Page - [Voice / Action]

[Cheria awoke in an incredibly good mood today. A good mood like she's never had before. It's like something inside her is telling her that everything is going to be all right. That she'll have a happy ending of sorts.

So naturally, she feels the need to spread these positive feelings through the village by means of the journal. When she speaks, her voice is rather dreamy.]

Good afternoon, everyone! Ah, such a beautiful sky. The animals and the trees of the forest are overflowing with happiness. I hope everyone will have a wonderful day!

[Oh yes, and she awoke wearing a nice dress today. A dress a princess might wear. It was strange, yes, but she won't let it ruin her good mood. In fact, she'll be going for a nice walk by the forest edge. As she does so, various forest critters will be drawn towards her and stroll along in her wake, chattering happily as she hums a cheerful tune to herself. Another rather peculiar thing to happen, but certainly not a bad one. She does like cute animals, after all.

When she returns to the house later on, she'll do all her chores such as cooking and cleaning with the same positive vigor.]

That's wonderful! Though, there's no form of currency in Luceti. Does that mean you would protect the residents for free, here?

[How noble. Of course, all her friends from home would do the same thing.]

If need be, I would do so.

One would always hope there isn't a need, of course! Things would be so much better if no one required protection from harm.

[She stops walking for a moment and leans down to pick up a cute rabbit from the ground, cradling it in her arms. Then she continues on her way.]

Hm, indeed.

[Cheria continues to pet the rabbit, albeit somewhat absentmindedly.] Are many of your friends from home here in the village?

[Careful, Kratos. One of the birds is trying to land on your shoulder and hitch a ride. Will you let it?]

You could say that, I suppose.

[Why so mean, Kratos. The bird eventually gives up and attempts to land on Cheria's shoulder instead. She doesn't mind at all.]

It's peculiar, isn't it? How people who came from the same world all seem to know each other? I wonder if the Malnosso do that on purpose...

I see no reason why that wouldn't be possible.

[Cheria's still lost in her own musings, her hand slowly stroking the rabbit's fluffy little head.]

Hm... In a way, it's both a good thing and a bad thing. If we can't prevent our friends from being taken to this world, then it's best they remain here in the barrier with us. That way, we can all stick together. Though, it seems not everyone here is friendly. I wouldn't know what to do if one of our enemies arrived in this village...

Indeed...

[At last, Cheria notices the complete lack of response and she stops walking, turning to face Kratos with an apologetic look on her face.]

O-oh, I'm sorry. I'm rambling, aren't I?

It's all right. I... do not mind.

I wouldn't want to- [She breaks off when a bush nearby rustles ominously and turns to watch it.]

[Silence. Then, a small black animal comes scurrying towards Cheria from the bushes. She breathes a small sigh.]

Oh, thank goodness. It's only a...

...!

[A rat. A filthy-looking rat from the Pied Piper story. And it's running straight towards Cheria's heels. Unbeknownst to her, it bears only good intentions and love. She's far too terrified to understand that rats can be nice critters as well.]

[Cheria usually doesn't mind the more creepy animals like spiders and such, but rats? This one has a disgusting sheen on its matted fur, like it just took a swim in the river. So unkempt and possibly diseased...!

The rat comes to a halt before her and sits up on its hind legs, looking up at her almost hopefully. It wants to be held and petted, just like the rabbit in Cheria's arms. Of course, our Princess fails to comprehend this and takes a few steps backwards. Meanwhile, all the other forest critters are sure to keep their distance from the rat as well.]

S-shoo! Shoo!

[But Kratos, the rat doesn't want to be petted by you. You are a grumpy man. It wants to be petted by Princess Cheria herself!

After glancing up at Kratos for a moment, it flicks its tail and gets back down on all fours to take a few more steps towards Cheria. She, in turn, produces a nervous sound from the back of her throat and backs away again, holding the bunny up a big higher as if terrified the rat might jump at it.]

[It just got more ridiculous, Kratos. Two more rats emerge from the bushes, all sniffing the air in an excited manner and hobbling towards Cheria. Their squeaks might be interpreted as cute by some, but it only unnerves her further.]

N-Ngeeeh...! [Don't scream don't scream don't scream...!]

[The rats simply give Kratos a disdainful stare and swerve to avoid him, still making their way towards Cheria. And Cheria is still backing away nervously.] G-go away! Shoo!

[At that moment, one of the rats breaks free of the crowd and dashes towards Cheria's ankles. Whatever composure she still had snaps and she lets out a deafening scream.]

KYAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! [Without further delay, she turns on her heel and runs, leaving half the forest critters behind with confused expressions. Will Kratos follow?]
